PARÁBOLAS  DEL MERCADO.

(MARKET PARABLES).
Documentary video and poster installation, 2018.

Project carried out in the market center of Mexico City, in conjunction with a family of sign makers with more than 20 years of experience. El “Brody”, Sofía and her son “Hurry” work with the family making posters with the prices of fruits and vegetables bought by the merchants of the city to inform their customers. The special feature of their work lies in the use of colloquial language, humorous phrases and double meanings used in their posters. With this they intend to attract the attention of their clients, however, their great audacity in the use of phrases manages to give us an overview of the context in which they were made, since they contain information about the political and social moments to which they belong. Phrases such as “Le peje a quien le Peje” during the inauguration of the current president of Mexico, “Caravana de descuentos” during the times when the entry of migrants into the country was sounded and “DINO a las bolsas” in the current campaign to eliminate the use of plastic bags, are able to act as a kind of thermometer and archive of the historical moment of our country. The project culminated in a video installation with a 2.40m x 2.40m mural made of a selection of signs and a screen that reproduced the video made as a loop that goes from dawn to dusk, as happens with the work cycles in the central supply center, which do not stop at any time.
