SUEÑO TRAICIONERO.

(Treacherous sleep).
Installation, 2023*

It is an installation of two pieces that were initially discarded in my selection of work. The photo of the sleeping man, despite having multiple versions, always generated in me a feeling of lukewarmness, while the photo of the road fell far short of the expectations I had when I took it. With the adhesion of the text as a controllable element, a narrative thread is generated that reflects on both pieces but especially on photography and artistic practice. The text becomes an element of cohesion in two images that without it, do not work.

Text:

“There are several versions of this photo, but not enough. None of them are even a little bit good. They are all lukewarm.

I was uncomfortable taking it, and it shows.

I wasn’t worried about that man waking up and finding me in the act, what really bothered me was being an intruder of the few moments there are to let yourself fall into sleep, to let go of the brake, the steering wheel and the eyelids. Life passes between destination and destination with the promise of rest. There are kilometers that are traveled sleepwalking, of which one only survives. Sleep is a bastard and treacherous. And that’s how I feel, like the meanest of traitors who took advantage of a moment of vulnerability to achieve his goal.

Come to think of it, it’s not that there are no versions of this photo, it’s that there shouldn’t be any.”
